There was a dog shaped hole in my living room when I came home today. I came in making a face to say hello to Wednesday and she wasn't there, and I felt sad.
She's staying with friends for a couple of days because we are going through to Edinburgh, and I thought I would relish the break from my busy evening 'throw ball/taker her out of pee' schedule. And I do, but I also miss having someone here who you know is happier because you are home (not that my husband doesn't, but half the time he's not here when I get back).
In another dog related conversation, I was talking to someone at work about how I am a first time parent with no friends of relatives with young children and therefore no experience. I offered that having a puppy from 8 weeks old was just like having a baby wasn't it? They need watching all the time, training, feeding, loving, don't they? The look of horror on the listener's face was both amusing and concerning....

The observant amoung you will have realised it is only Tuesday. I'm not talking days, I'm talking dogs. My dog, called Wednesday. So we were watching a certain movie based on a comic book family. Anyway, today we took her to the vets and arranged for her to go in for the big op, getting rid of her girly parts. I am completely convinced of the reasons, my house is barely big enough for the three of us, let alone any smaller dogs (and all the whining of newborns? I don't think so, I need my sleep). Then you have the added bonus of blood on your carpets, hormones (that's my perogative) and being a male dog magnet for miles. Yes, the vet said MILES. Can you even imagine what that would be like for humans? Some woman on the south side is ovulating, let's get the truck guys! Anyway, such a good idea that it is for her, I can't help but be a bit sad that we are denying her puppies. We saw how her mother was with her, and you can't help but be moved by the primal bond between mum and baby. Then again, maybe I am sentimentalising with my human brain. She's got us, we love her enough for a whole brood of puppies, and we will never run off with the bad boy Jack Russell who lives next door.
