Twas The Day of Christmas...

  • 25th Dec, 2008 at 9:40 AM

I wonder if now I have a kid I will ever get to sleep late again on the 25th December.

First present over and done with we are now at the dog walking/baby's morning nap/cooking dessert stage (and I cheekily downloaded a free album from Amazon, only available today and tomorrow).

I keep asking people about their christmas routines because it fascinates me how everyone does it differently. In my family it was stockings (or bags) as soon as you wake up, and then big presents later after breakfast with a good glass of fizz. I guess we liked to stretch it out as long as possible and give it a good sense of occasion.

Now we are on our own we have adapted the model to suit, so instead of dressing up I'm wearing pjs, and the fizz comes with breakfast in the form of bucks fizz. Presents will done throughout the day to stretch out the delight, though there aren't that many since we are having four present swapping sessions Hub, Bub and I today, with my Dad on the 27th, with one sister and her Hub on the 28th and with my other sister and her fiancee on the 3rd. The presents wil just keep on coming.

Other traditions we have - watching Scrooged! before bed on christmas eve, reading Twas The Night Before Christmas to somebody (this year my new son), and cooking all the courses of christmas dinner from scratch. I realise this does not sound very out of the ordinary, but since we don't really do that any other time of the year it is a big deal. Today we are having figs in bacon, goat cheese tarts, turkey and veg and upside down berry cake, which I have already put the oven on for.

Actually, better get on that cake now...

A merry christmas to all, and to all a good day!

Christmas Food Shopping

  • 22nd Dec, 2008 at 2:40 PM

If you haven't done it yet and you have a reasonable amount of food to buy for the christmas period, then you're screwed. I went this morning and it was pandemonium. Brace yourself and take a hip flask, it's just some advice.

I am ashamed to notice that I haven't posted anything for a while. This is because there is stuff going on in my life and I can't seem to write anything that doesn't involve it. When I can I will tell you al about it but just trust me on this one.

Everybody started their christmas shopping? It is only 33 days or something. I'm going out to buy a top tomorrow for the one of the 5 christmas nights out I am going to. Buying all my presents already seems to make sense since all my money is going to go on going out next month.

Yes I have bought all my christmas presents and it is still November.

Of course I'll need all of December to wrap them....
